Winter Carnival Youth Video Challenge

Attention Richmond Hill high school students! Need volunteer hours to graduate? Want a fun, creative project to earn your hours?

The 53rd Richmond Hill Winter Carnival will be virtual this year; encouraging families to enjoy winter activities and carnival traditions while staying safe. The Winter Carnival volunteer organizing committee needs numerous short, video commercials (1 to 3 minutes) created to spread the word about keeping the winter carnival spirit alive in February 2021.

There are various themes to choose from: “winter carnival food,” “family fun,” “winter carnival sports,” “Ookpik carnival mascot,” “elementary school hockey tradition” etc.

You can interview a member of your family, a longtime carnival volunteer or share your family’s favourite carnival memories.

If students would like to interview willing former entertainers and performers from past winter carnivals, such as clowns, musicians, etc., reach out to committee members for contact information at

Deadline for finished videos is our traditional carnival weekend, Feb. 6-7, although we will accept later submissions.

Technical details: Please ensure your name, grade and school are provided with your emailed submission. Videos should be no longer than 3 minutes, and in MP4 format. Email  finished short movie submission to:
