Since we’re always adding more events and we can’t control the weather, Events are subject to change.

We have many things going on for kids and families that are scheduled, and many that are not scheduled (like bouncy castles, kids games and rides, lots of food, the Subtonic Monks). Come on out and have fun!

49th Annual Pancake Breakfast
There is no better way to celebrate a Sunday morning in February than joining us for the world famous Pancake Breakfast in the Main Tent from 9:00am to 11:30am Pancakes, sausages, peameal bacon, hot chocolate and coffee - gather up the family and come on down on Sunday, February 5th. Generations of Richmond Hill residents have made this an annual event, so come on and join the fun!

Amateur Band Contest
Five bands battle it out - only one can win!

Bed Races
With a team of five - four to push the bed frame and one to ride - race on the ice against others for the best time. Sign-up is online and at the Carnival Stage, and will be announced.

Carnival Button Draw
Help support our Richmond Hill Winter Carnival by purchasing a $2 souvenir button. Buttons can be purchased at Municipal Offices, local participating elementary schools, and at the Mill Pond during Carnival.

Each Carnival button has a unique number and on Carnival Sunday the winning button numbers will be drawn.

This years prizes include:

Celebrate Canada's 150th
Help us celebrate Canada's 150th anniversary with a complimentary slice of birthday cake. MPs Leona Alleslev and Majid Jowhari will serve it up right after the Opening Ceremonies in front of the Stage. Don't miss out!

Colouring Contest
This is the 20th annual Carnival Colouring Contest. We are expecting over 2,500 entries!


Winning entries will be on display at the Carnival.

Elementary School Hockey Finals
We have our Junior and Senior Finalists - this years Finals will be at Elgin Barrow Arena in February 7th.

E.T. The Mime
E.T. The Mime is considered one of Canada's best mimes and he is recognized nationwide as a sensational performer.

Make sure you check him out during Carnival Weekend!

Fat Bikes
Want to ride a bike outdoors in the winter? Come ride a Fat Bike on an outdoor course! Helmets are provided.

Bikes are provided by Evolution Cycles.

Get Your Picture Taken With Ookpik
Once again, the Richmond Hill Camera Club will be set up in the main tent to give you a chance to have your picture taken with our beloved mascot, Ookpik! Come and have a family or individual picture taken with Ookpik.

All you need is your Carnival button to have your picture taken. You can pick up your picture right there and we'll send you an electronic copy of the picture by email so you can remember all the fun you had at the 49th Richmond Hill Winter Carnival.

Ice and Wood Carver, Frank Vandermey
Like last year, Frank Vandermey will be carving critters and creatures as you watch. On Saturday he'll be wood carving while on Sunday he'll be ice carving.

Nature Walk Through The Woods
This year, the Oak Ridges Trail Association and the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority are teaming up to take us on a walk through the woods so we can all learn a bit about local fauna and wildlife. Three walks are planned at 11:30pm, 12:15pm and 1:00pm on Sunday. The walks will start on the trail at the north end of the Mill Pond Park (watch for the signs) and will last about 30 minutes. The walks will be along a gentle path and are intended for all ages. Come and join us and check out the wild end of the Mill Pond Park.

Ontario Craft Beer Tasting
Our Ontario Craft Brewery Beer Tasting event is back for its fourth year. Enjoy local flavours from three Ontario Craft Breweries:
  • Collective Arts Brewing
  • Lake Wilcox Brewing Co.
  • Red Thread Brewing Co.
The breweries will be selling samples of their brews in the Carnival Tent on Saturday from 5 to 9 pm. Local Richmond Hill entertainers Coco Savior and Happy Jack & The Rainmakers will be performing for you. Come out and enjoy some unique Winter Carnival fun in the tent on Saturday evening.

Scouts - Winter Camping & Survival
Once again the Scouts will be joining us at Winter Carnival and will be setting up a winter outdoor campsite on Friday night through to Sunday afternoon. Stop by and see what fun it can be to camp in the winter and check out their culinary specialities - monkey bread anyone?

Skydivers on the Mill Pond
If you've never seen the spectacular skydivers come whizzing down onto the Mill Pond, you've missed an amazing display ... and if you have seen it before you know how much fun it is to watch them dive over the crowds and make their perfect landings on the ice! So bring your family (and your skates) and join us at the Mill Pond at 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for an amazing skydiving display (weather and ice conditions permitting).

Speaking Of Wildlife
The young, and the young at heart, will enjoy seeing our animal friends on the Main Stage, brought to us by Speaking of Wildlife. O.P. Awesome, Caddyshack the groundhog and Chanel the skunk are only a few of the rescued animals whose stories will be shared. Come on out and learn about these amazing creatures and their friends.

Wing Eating Contest
Eight hungry attendees will be selected from all of the applications submitted by noon on Saturday, February 4th, 2017. Selected attendees will be announced from the stage at the Winter Carnival on February 4th, 2017, at 12:30 pm.

Be sure to get the info and register ahead of time!

If your name is called from the stage, you must sign in at the Wing Eating Contest desk, inside the Main Tent on the Carnival site by 12:45 pm.

All contestants must 19 years of age or over.

The contest starts at 1:30 pm - make sure you come hungry!
